How to use Markush structure drawing

Modified on Fri, 31 Mar, 2023 at 1:58 PM

The Orbit Chemistry module is an optional additional module that must be added to a license. It is not a standard module that is included in all subscriptions by default. When included, the molecule search interface is part of the advanced search form.

Markush structures are not indexed but it can be interesting to use the Markush drawing as a drawing search mode (similarly as combinatorial chemistry).

Let’s take the example of a patent discussing ‘aspirin’. Indexation of the Chemistry Module will transform the word aspirin into the structure below.

It is possible for a user to draw a Markush structure (see below) to search a family of structures that include aspirin and find all the resulting documents (including aspirin).

The Markush drawing above can be drawn to search 6 molecules at once (removing symmetric compounds), one of which being aspirin.
