Why running a similarity search?
Patent families typically do not exist in isolation. Multiple related applications may share common content, with successive filings on the same technical subject originating from the same inventors or assignees over time.
Additionally, concurrent development efforts by competing organisations often target overlapping technologies. Incremental innovation further compounds this landscape, as minor improvements to an initial invention can generate multiple derivative patent families.
Nonetheless, this similarity offers you another way to search, starting from an existing family.
Sophia Similarity intends to quickly retrieve patent families, and display the most similar to your selection. Based on our AI-technology of embeddings, like Sophia Search, this technology offers you more search precision and speed, up to 1000 results.
How to use Sophia Similarity?
From the hitlist page, please select at least one result. By selecting several patent families at the same time, Orbit Intelligence will run a similarity search for each and then combine the results with OR operator and then display the 1000 results.
Once your results displayed, you can have a look to the column Semantic alignment indicating the "similarity level" between the families originally selected and your results.
Good to know
Sophia Similarity is currently available only in the FAMPAT collection. Your initial families selection is excluded from the results provided, contrary to the legacy Similarity search.
As with Sophia Search, this special search command cannot be saved.
If the result of your search is null, please consider to run your search later as the embeddings could be absent on the most recent documents during 1 or 2 days.
